According to the EPA (Unites States Environmental Protection Agency), the United States produced 292.4 million tons of solid waste in 2018.

  • Paper and paperboard accounts for the largest waste material with 23.05% from paper and paperboard. That amounts to ~67.4 millions tons!

  • Out of the above, ~1.7 millions tons comes from books and magazines. 690,000 tons comes from books and 980,000 tons from magazines.

  • At an assumed average weight of 2 lbs. per book, 690,000 tons of books equals approximately 690 million books end up as landfill waste?

Recycling is at our core

 Recycling is at our core

While we offer various services, book reselling and recycling are the bread and butter of Clean Earth Books. Since our inception, our focus has been to reduce waste by giving used books a second home or preparing unsellable books for recycling. Unsellable books refers to books in poor condition that are unwanted or can’t be rehomed; think damaged, missing pages, etc. We shred and prepare them for the production of ‘new’ recyclable paper products. At Clean Earth books, we produce over 40,000 lbs. of recyclable paper daily, that’s about 5,200 tons a year!
